Scottish Bakers President Helps Promote Glasgow's Circular Economy

An in-depth study of Glasgow’s potential to be a global leader in the circular economy has been conducted, making the city only the second in the world to be assessed in such a level of detail.

Scottish Green Apple Awards Open for Entries

The Green Apple Environment Awards were established in 1994 as an annual campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around
the world. With an increasing number of entries (and winners) from Scotland, they have decided to give Scotland its own Green Apple Awards.

Bake Off Creme De La Creme Looking for Contestants

Love Productions, the makers of The Great British Bake Off are making a second series of Bake Off: Creme de la Creme where the elite world of professional pastry compete to become Britain's best pastry chefs. They are looking for teams of three people to take part and the team captain must be a head chef or equivalent. The deadline for entries is Midnight on the 19th June.

Organic Ambitions Fund

The Scottish Government is launching the Organic Ambitions Fund 2016/17 as part of its efforts to support the organic sector in Scotland. The Fund is intended to develop Organic Ambitions, Scotland’s Organic Action Plan 2016-2020.

Modern Apprentices on the up

The number of Modern Apprentices (MA) in training in 2015/16 has has increased to 25,818, exceeding the Scottish Government's annual target for the 5th year in a row. Figures published recently by Skills Development Scotland show that 196,626 people in Scotland have started MA since 2007.

Worshipful Company of Bakers - Student Bursaries and Awards 2016

The Worshipful Company of Bakers Education & Research Foundation is pleased to be able to offer a limited number of bursaries and awards to bakery students and trainees, and they are delighted to invite our students to apply this year.

These annual awards are highly prized and are designed to enrich the bakery experience of the winners and further their knowledge of the industry; whilst encouraging their innovation and creativity. They also provide a valuable opportunity for students to network with their peers whilst experiencing bakery training in a new environment, with a different approach, and with industry experts in their fields.

The Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards took place last night and the winners revealed. Scottish Bakers sponsored the Bakery and Cereal Based category and Chief Executive Alan Clarke was there to present Stoats with their award. Well done to Scottish Bakers members Border Biscuits and Duncans of Deeside for being shortlisted at the awards and to Jim Walker of Walkers Shortbread on his Outstanding Contribution award.

Scottish Bakers attend Incorporation of Glasgow Bakers Student Evening

Scottish Bakers President Craig McPhie & Chief Executive Alan Clarke were invited by the Incorporation of Glasgow Bakers to speak at their Students Evening on Thursday 26th May at the City of Glasgow College. We would like to say a big thank you to Bruce Reidford, Deacon Anita Brown, Dr Rosemary Harley, Amanda Davies and Brian Leighton for organising a great event.
