Reids of Caithness has been named Scottish Baker of the Year 2017 at a glittering ceremony hosted by Scottish Bakers, the association that supports and promotes the interests of Scottish bakers across the country.

"It is with regret that today I must announce that our Chief Executive of 7 years, Alan Clarke, will be leaving Scottish Bakers at the end of June to take up the role of Chief Executive of Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).
Alan leaves Scottish Bakers in a much healthier position than when he joined. We have provided training and qualifications to more than 3,000 employees across the UK from the food and drink sector and grown annual turnover exponentially, achieving profitability each year. During this time, we have received healthy audits not just from our accountants but from our Awarding Bodies, regulators and funders.
A new, ambitious strategy to drive growth in Scotland’s farming, fishing, food and drink industry was unveiled today by industry body, Scotland Food & Drink.
Food and drink has been Scotland’s best performing sector in recent years, with record export figures released last weekend and sales at home increasing rapidly too.
The sector is worth £14.4 billion annually, 119,000 people are working directly in the industry and food manufacturing in Scotland is growing at twice the rate of the UK average for the sector.
‘Ambition 2030’, launched today, establishes a vision to cement food and drink as Scotland’s most valuable industry, with the opportunity to more than double turnover in the sector to reach £30 billion by 2030.
Have you ever wondered what 850 scones, loaves, savouries, cakes, morning rolls and biscuits all in one room looks like? That is exactly what faced the 56 professional judges in Dunfermline today.
11,000 bakery customers up and down the land voted for their favourite bakery bites and 115 bakers were asked to send in products for judinging - 850 products arrived for scrutiny and the final shortlist has been settled on. But the results will remain a closely held secret until 5th & 6th May.
Food and drink exports from Scotland grew by £421 million in 2016, to a record £5.5 billion.
The latest figures show an 8% increase in the value of exports to Scotland’s successful food and drink sector over the past year.
