  • Over 11,000 customers from across Scotland voted for their favourite bakery products across six categories

  • 115 bakeries were nominated

  • More than 850 of the most popular products in the land were delivered for scrutiny

  • A panel of 56 expert and independent judges judged each and every product

  • And now the shortlist has been announced!

With a sea of scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits, the judges had a hard task tasting, smelling and squishing each and every item to shortlist the best products in the land.

"We took delivery of hundreds of excellent scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits made by Scottish bakers and our judges, led by head judge Robert Ross, have once again done us proud, we have a strong shortlist to take forward to the next stage" commented Scottish Bakers Chief Executive Alan Clarke.

Each of the categories: scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits have been divided into 3 regions: Northern, Central and Southern Scotland. Within each category, the judges will award regional Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. All of the regional winners will then be judged on a national level meaning that they could be recognised as having made the best bakery product in Scotland!

And then the competition moves to a business footing. Category winners will be invited to put forward a case to be considered for Craft Baker, Retail Craft Baker and Wholesale Baker of the Year. This year also sees the introduction of a new business category – the Bakery Café of the Year Award.

The winner of this new category will then compete alongside the winners of the Craft Baker, Retail Craft Baker and Wholesale Baker of the Year, for the title of Scottish Baker of the Year 2017/18. We will also again feature our Manufacturer of the Year Category enabling bakers to vote for their favourite bakery manufacturer.

But the ultimate winner will be crowned the Scottish Baker of the Year 2017/18.

The final results will remain a closely guarded secret until 6th May when Mich Turner MBE, Scottish Bakers Ambassador will announce the results and also crown the Scottish Baker of the Year 2017, a crown currently held by the Kandy Bar of Saltcoats.

And we are pleased to announce that following the judging day, the following bakeries have won at least a Regional Bronze Award for one of their products:
