Centenary Club Sectors 2 & 3 returned to Haggs Castle Golf Club on the 13th of December for their 2018 Christmas Lunch, organised by Sector 3 Convenor Jim Brown.
President Ronnie Miles was a guest of the Centenary Club and Chief Executive Alasdair Smith also attended. We were delighted that Past President Peter Ford attended the lunch for the first time with Ken Kinnear from Tranent, Ken being a Past Chairman of No 5 Region.
Following pre-lunch drinks, the members and guests took their places at three tables. There was an excellent selection of dishes for each of the three courses and they were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
As usual there was much chatting, reminiscing and putting the baking world to rights during the lunch. We could probably have solved Teresa May’s Brexit problems as well during the lunch, but she didn’t ask!
After lunch we retired to the junior’s room at Haggs Castle for tea, coffee, mince pies and a short talk from Chief Executive Alasdair on Scottish Bakers and some of its history; and from President Ronnie on the Bells Group.
This included an interesting competition, with the prize being a Bells Clootie dumpling and a Bells gingerbread. You had to guess, or estimate, how many times the number of boxes of Bells Steak pies sold in December 2017, piled on top of each other, would reach the height of the Scott Monument? The winner was Ken Kinnear, who guessed 304, with the calculated number being 301, so he was very close!
Jim Brown gave a vote of thanks to Ronnie and Alasdair for attending the lunch, and for the support the Centenary Club gets from Scottish Bakers.
