National Food and Drink Training welcomes Northern Ireland’s cash injection to support apprentices

National Food & Drink Training (NFDT), the specialist training arm of Scottish Bakers, has welcomed the announcement by the Northern Ireland administration that employers will be offered up to £3,700 for every apprentice that they bring back from furlough and retain until they have completed their training, with an additional £3,000 available to employers for each new apprenticeship opportunity created between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021.

NFDT can deliver apprenticeships in Baking Skills, Food Production and Processing and Food Manufacturing Excellence throughout Northern Ireland, across the bakery and wider food & drink manufacturing sectors. 
 
“This financial boost is a welcome additional incentive to support businesses  in bringing their apprentices back to work and to consider enrolling  new starts” said Chief Executive Alasdair Smith. “Since the easing of lockdown, we’ve been able to carefully restart delivery and have been pleased with the positive response received so far and this incentive can only help business and learners alike. ”
 
With workplace apprenticeships recognised as an important way in which businesses can help to recover from the impact of the lockdown, NFDT is perfectly placed to support employers and their staff to build skills and resilience, and improve efficiency and productivity at this crucial time. 
 
Training and Quality Manager, Scott Anderson said, “Our experience of delivering apprenticeships over many years has proven time and again that investment in training delivers a range of positive outcomes for employers and employees alike: better staff morale, improved quality, less waste and higher productivity to name just a few. This additional funding from the Northern Ireland administration  means it makes more sense than ever to look at recruiting an apprentice or providing apprenticeship and upskilling opportunities to existing employees.
