The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards

The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards 2019 gives ultimate accolade to THE LITTLE BAKERY OF DUMFRIES

The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards 2019 came to an exciting conclusion at a celebratory lunch on 15 January as The Little Bakery of Dumfries was announced as the 20th winner of the competition making them THE WORLD SCOTCH PIE CHAMPION OF 2019.

This coveted prize was won under intense competition and a serious level of scrutiny by a team of expert, and independent, judges.

Many entrants are surprised by just how much goes in to this competition so we thought it would be helpful to set out some key competition facts:

  • Over 450 products - pies, sausage rolls, bridies, savouries and apple pies - were entered for the 2019 awards
  • By over 80 of the nation’s best butchers and bakers
  • Judged by 50 independent industry experts and professionals
  • 11 category winners selected
  • ONE World Scotch Pie Champion

It is because of this rigorous process tha The Little Bakery can truly be proud to have produced the best Scotch Pie in the land.

Have a look at our video of their judging day below:

Kerr Little of the Little Bakery said:

“We won, I am speechless! To have been given the ultimate accolade today and to be able to call our pie the WORLD CHAMPION as judged by a panel of experts is just excellent. This award is proof of what I have known for a long time that The Little Bakery team is the best in the land. I am really looking forward to the year ahead and to selling more of our champion pies than ever.”

TV presenter and entrepreneur Carol Smillie, who presented The Little Bakery with their award said:

“I have announced the winner for four years in a row now and I know what it means to win so I am delighted for The Little Bakery and for what the year ahead holds. But for every winner here today, they can be proud and I hope they all see business boom as they all enjoy their well-deserved success."

The competition, which has run for 20 years, aims to highlight that bakers and butchers create high quality pastry products day in day out.  Recognising the “great and the good” in this way rewards excellence and raises the bar in the industry.

Head judge Ian Nelson oversees the judging process to ensure total independence, and that only the best pies were recognised and that only the best of the best was crowned world champion.
